Easy Rice Cooker Barley

Barley is a great grain alternative to rice: It gets far less arsenic exposure than rice, it’s high in fibre, protein and a source of iron and b-vitamins. And it's also very easy to make in you rice cooker!

Equipment

  • 1 rice cooker
  • 1 rice paddle

Ingredients
  

  • 2 "rice cups" / ¾ standard cup pearl or pot barley
  • water

Instructions
 

  • Pour barley into the rice cooker inner pot.
  • Add water to fill line 2.
  • Close the lid and cook on “brown rice” setting.
  • When the bell rings, open lid and fluff up barley with a rice paddle.

Notes

Once the bell rings and it is done, the barley can be substituted in a variety of dishes that generally use rice. Try it with my Barley Fried Rice recipe!
